An Ohio Memorial Weekend

We headed to Ohio on Friday...some by car, some by plane.  It was a well coordinated trip out as Scott was at the airport within 5 minutes of our arrival.  He had dropped off Drew and Jack at the farm enroute.  It couldn't have been timed better.

Saturday, we enjoyed a day on the farm.  Tommy, Drew and I went for a long walk with Max in the morning.  Scott and Jack helped Grandpa Shisler with clean up from a Silo that collapsed in a storm while we were walking.  Max was a littler nervous with their dog Cindy, but after awhile warmed up to her.  We went for an afternoon drive to Amish Country and ate a late lunch at one of the local Amish Restaurants, Drew was in heaven with their glorious mashed potatoes.  His favorite.  We spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out at the farm, cleaning up the concrete blocks from the silo spill, Scott mowed the yard and the boys ran around outside a lot.

Sunday morning we headed to church early, Scott showed the boys where his Grandma and Grandpa Shisler are buried at the cemetery that is next to the church.  The sermon was excellent, all about our Nation needing to be "Under God" and how we have lost so much of that in our schools, in our world.  It made me grateful to have our boys in a school where they CAN pray and the CAN talk about God freely and the bible CAN be used in teaching.  Scott's older sister Kathy was at church and came home for "dinner" too.  Letha made the boys favorite, pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, salad, homemade jam....Yummy.  That afternoon we played some, Scott's cousin Lisa and her family all came out to see us.  It was nice for the boys to have time with their second cousins, they don't have any first cousins on the Shisler side so that was fun for them.  It was H-O-T.  Grateful they have central air in the house now.  Sunday night was a trip to the world famous, "Dalton Dariette" for burgers and milkshakes. That was a treat.

We snapped some photos after church with Grandma and Grandpa Shisler and Aunt Kathy too.

The boys with their second cousins, the Weinmans.  Jacob, Kasey and Laura.

Max doing what he likes best, dragging a bat around.  *note for my Mom and Grandma Lu,  Normally he had shoes on, he was out for the quick cousin pic, hence lack of shoes.   :)

Scott and Lisa, they grew up 3 miles apart and spent a LOT of time together.  Last summer, Lisa and her family drove to Iowa for a visit.

Monday morning, more work to be done.  The boys and I headed to Aunt Kathy's house to help her with her weeding and planting flowers.  Scott stayed back at the farm for more silo clean up and another full mowing and trimming of the yard.  They have a HUGE yard and it takes a very long time to get it mowed.  I am sure his Dad was grateful to have a break from it.  In the afternoon we played outside, it was HOT but nice to be outside.  We played a LOT of whiffle ball, Max included.  I wish I had taken pictures of our big game, but I was frankly too hot to go inside and get the camera.  Once in the AC it was hard to want to come back out.  Monday night Grandma Shisler made another delicious dinner, ham loaf with cheesy potatoes...yummy homemade applesauce and a peach pie.  I can't forget to mention the news of the Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel resigning on this day.  It is a bittersweet thing for our boys, and for Scott...I should say right now it's more bitter than sweet.  We really admired him and are hopeful not all that is coming out is true.  Some good lessons to come out of it all regardless.

Max most liked pushing the paint roller on the driveway

 Max's very first tractor ride

Can you see his sweet little hand waving from inside the cab?

 There's the sweet wave

Max made up his own game of roll the ball on the top of the pump house...it's slanted so it rolled back down to him.  He LOVED playing that.

sitting sort of by the dog

We packed it up and headed out this morning, those of us that flew got home by 10 am those that drove, 5 pm.  WE are grateful to be home safe and sound.  Tommy mowed the entire yard today so that Scott could come home and not have to do one more thing after his long drive.  He had not ever done the front yard before, he did a terrific job and Scott was very grateful.

Tommy had a baseball game tonight, so the unpacking hasn't been done yet.  There is always tomorrow for that...the boys first "official day of summer" so they say.

Whew...School's OUT for Summer

Unloading pictures off both cameras tonight....
to catch you up on the week since Tuesday.
Drew took a cookie cake to class on Wednesday to celebrate his birthday.  He will be 12, GULP, yes 12 years old next Friday.

Drew and his beloved teacher, Mrs. Keithley.  Tommy had Mrs. Keithley as well.  We adore her, she is at the TOP of the list of favorite teachers for both of the boys.  Please pray for her, they found cancer was back in her body after 12 years of remission.  She found out last Friday, still waiting on the details of treatments and exactly what she will be fighting.  Pray for her.

This morning was the last day of school, we had to pose for pictures, OF course.  Wow look how much they have grown since the fall.    Jack especially has grown up so much.

And then I made them asked them to climb the sign, we did this a couple of years ago.  I didn't get one this fall because we had a very nervous 7th grader who wasn't excited about photos on the first day of school.

And we posed with the lion, Jack's request

And one with the elem principal, Mr. Lambert who will be leaving DMC and heading to Minnesota for a new job this summer.

Scott and Max went to Jack's end of the year party today.  This was Jack and his friend Wesley.

Jack and Mrs. Zonnefeld, who he loved as a teacher.

...and while they were at the party I was home manning the 7th grade party.  The kids had lots of fun and we had a great turnout.  As you can see, the boys hung out...and the girls hung out.  Not a lot of chatter between the 2 but I did manage to get them all into one photo.  I am guessing this will change in the upcoming years.  :)

And so another school year is in the books, literally.  We are on to 3rd grade, 6th grade and 8th grade.  Oh my!  Growing up so fast.  We are headed to Ohio tomorrow for a long weekend of visiting Grandma and Grandpa Shisler on the farm.  Be back next week.  And then...we will let the summer BEGIN!

Mid week update

Okay well it is not mid-week but feels like it I guess...

some pictures I just pulled off the camera from our week thus far.

Max at Field Day on Monday watching Drew

Drew had field day on Monday.  As you can tell, he took it very seriously but he did have a lot of fun too.  :)  Field day is for 4th-6th graders.

Tommy had a ball game on Monday night...

Max at Jack's game tonight, debating between golf....

...and baseball.

Jack avoiding getting hit by the ball, Tommy watching in background.

Jack playing first base...waiting for the ball.

Oh my...

Oh my our week just got busier...Tommy asked en-route home from school today if he could invite the entire 7th grade class over on Thursday for a "School's OUT party".  G-U-L-P That means boys AND girls, and potentially a lot of them.

School is out Thursday at 11:30.  So WHY not?  We are hosting a Backyard Potluck Party for the Class of 2016.  ONLY held if it is NOT raining.  :)

Yep, this could be crazy?  I may be crazy for saying YES.  But then again, I love the idea of the party in our backyard where I can keep my eyes open and maybe, the windows cracked. Of course I will NEED to be outside from time to time refilling platters right?!  I did recruit a few of my Mom friends, from the grade, to help me out.  :)  SO I won't be alone and Scott will be here for most of the party as well.  And well I can ALWAYS send Max out with them....

P.S. Working on being a "Yes" Mom.

Baseball, baseball, a wedding and more baseball

It has been a hectic week, still is the crazy month of May...just plugged in my camera and this was on there from the past week.  Lots of baseball...

 Jack playing ball...

 Tommy batting

Drew getting a ground ball in the outfield

Max enjoying some swing time with Daddy today at Drew's tournament in his Twins tee
(love baseball parks that have playgrounds)

...and we did head to Illinois yesterday for a wedding of our old neighbors in Minnesota.   Our neighbors, the Rismas, had 3 boys.  Their boys were about 6,8 and 13 when we moved in.  We became very close to their family and have continued to be.   Their middle son got married in Decatur IL.  It was a wonderful wedding and we were so happy to be there.  It was a long day but worth the trip.  We got home around 1:00 am.  Drew stayed here for a baseball tournament and stayed with a buddy.  I forgot to take my camera to the wedding.  Have a couple of pics still on my phone.

This is the last week of school.  FINAL COUNTDOWN.  It's a busy week.  Field day for Drew Monday, finals for Tommy, revised schedule for Tommy due to finals, baseball games each night, end of the year parties in Drew and Jack's classrooms, Drew's birthday treats, and cleaning out lockers and desks.  Whew.  On Friday we are kicking off the summer with a trip to Ohio to see Scott's parents, aka Grandma and Grandpa Shisler on the farm.  The boys are so excited for everything this week, well Tommy not so much about finals.

I feel like I am about to DIVE into a very busy week, or more like busy 10 days...then I will come back up for air after we get home from Ohio.  Here I go....

Max and Zaccheus

In my suburban we often watch DVD's as we are driving carpool, or picking up the boys from school etc.  Currently our "Bible Songs" DVD is in the player, this is an OLD Dvd, back from when we had it on video and there were NO such things a DVD's.  Ancient I tell you, back when Tommy was little.  ALL of our boys have loved this Cedarmont Kids series of videos.

This week Max has started to do some of the actions to the songs with the kids, it is pretty cute.  Zaccheus is his favorite.  After school Jack and Drew had just hopped in the car and we were still waiting for Tommy and we caught it on my phone...

so cute...

perhaps a sign that Max is in the car far too much?

I need to get to bed...we have been staying up WAY too late trying to just keep up with our family and our life.  It's CRAZY.

Craziness in photos

Heading to bed but wanted to post a few pics from the past 5 days...didn't have my camera for everything but here are some.

Wednesday night was Awana awards night, Max wanted to be up front and kept running down the aisle to be front and center.

Jack received his Sparks Plaque, this was for completing 3 years of books and LOTS and lots of bible verses.  Both his big brother's have these plaques and it has been Jack's GOAL to have one just like theirs.  As you can tell in the below photo, he was about jumping off the stage he was SO excited.  Way to go Jack we are SO proud of you!

Thursday night Drew had his Spring Concert at school.  He did a great job and we are proud of him.  He really enjoys music, continues to play the piano and is leaning the guitar.  This was fun.  While I was watching this, Jack and Tommy both had baseball games.

Drew and his friend Blake both wore the striped shirt look to their concert. :)

After the concert we caught part of Jack's game, Tommy's was done.  Fun to watch him play.

This weekend we had visitors, my big brother Mike, his wife Cara and their kids, Charlie and Alice came down from MN to visit.  I didn't have my camera out much but snapped these today before they left.  The cousins had a terrific time together.  It was nice to have them here.  Drew had a baseball tournament that was rained out today, but we did ALL get to his game last night.  It was a full house of kiddos here.

And how cute are the cousins?  Oh my...this is 6 of the 9.

And today I decided to peak in on our baby Robins...have left them alone all week.  Quick snapped this photo.  Can you see how BIG they are?  Oh my in one week they are HUGE and fill up the nest.  Well the Mama Robin did NOT like me sneaking a peak and came in and swarmed down on me.  So I think I will leave them alone again for awhile.  She did not appreciate my photo opp.

So there you have a small peak into the craziness of May.  I missed pics of Tommy and Drew's baseball games this week.  Drew had 2 field trips, and Tommy had one.  Didn't go to any of them so no photos there either.

Only 8 1/2 days of school left.  It's the BIG COUNTDOWN around here!
