Christmas 1977

A friend sent me our family Christmas card today from 1977.  She had found it while helping her Mom clean.  Her Mom was a high school friend of my Moms...one of the "Golden Girls"...it made me smile so I wanted to post it here to keep...

it was a tri-fold card...oh and it was the year I opted to play beauty shop with my bangs sometime in the fall.  Oh my....

Christmas at the cabin

We kept with our tradition of going to the cabin the day after Christmas.  We knew it would be hard, but we also couldn't imagine doing anything different than past years.

I love to watch the cousins there...they all love to just be together.  They share chairs, desserts, chatter, laughs, games and snuggles.  There is never a real quiet moment.  There is definitely a huge hole at the cabin without Mom there, everything we did ran about an hour or 2 late.  We just couldn't seem to get things done at her pace.  We all laid in bed longer, the meals were all later, bedtime was later...we couldn't get the rhythm of life at the cabin without her.  We enjoyed each other, we all cried...most of us daily.  The cabin is by far the hardest place to be without Mom there...but it is also the best.  She is everywhere at the cabin.  She and Dad spent hours and hours deciding on the building of the cabin, each space was discussed and thought out...she knew where she wanted things hung, which rooms to put each quilt in, the flower arrangements...she is in every detail up there.  I can almost hear her laughter as I walk by photos of her...so hard, but so good.

I need to do a better job of blogging this year, I need to do so much catch up from last.  I need to work on that this year.  Nothing is the same as before...and it won't ever be "normal" again in that sense.  A piece of my heart is in heaven...

Some pictures from our time at the cabin...

so grateful for so much....family and time together are both precious!
