Halloween...ahem Beggar's Night

Tonight in Waukee it is "Beggar's Night" I won't go into my feelings on it because I do year after year and you can scroll back in the blog if you REALLY want to know.  But I am just now pretending it's Halloween night.  The boys are all out trick or treating with Scott.  I am home answering the doorbell and handing out M & M's which is always our candy of choice.  Yep, we only do one selection, much quicker that way, there are NO decisions to be made by trick or treaters.  We hand out one full size bag of M & M's and usually, since they are the regular size we get all smiles.

Tommy, surprised us, and came out of Halloween retirement tonight.  He hasn't trick or treated for several years now but decided this year...since he doesn't have braces...it may be worth his while to dress up and go out with his little brothers.  So he is even out this year throwing together a costume in less than 10 minutes.  (he and scott got home from Ohio around 4 today.,.more on their weekend later)

Here are some pics from earlier today....

Carving Pumpkins

Can you guess what these creative carvings are?  The top one is Drew's...below is Jack's.

Jack and I made a pumpkin pie today, at his request, our first one ever.  Yummy

Blakely stopped by to visit us and show off her ladybug costume.

Mug shot of our puppy aka "woof woof"

 The whole gang

Drew as Coach Luke Fickell, Ohio State's current head coach

Tommy as an OSU football player with his new jersey

Jack in his Darth Vader garb...hair under the cap even.

We had a hard time getting the puppy to take a picture outdoors...

Because he saw the candy basket...

Once he got his M & M's he was happy

and off they went down the street to gather candy and treats....

  1. i still have not gotten used to the Beggar's Night thing, but I do like the use of joke telling rather than just the candy boon doggle. Granted, the vast majority of "beggars" really didn't have a joke. I am also only mildly amused by the parents collecting candy for the infant they are holding. And many times there are no other toddlers in tow.

Max may be the cutest puppy I have ever seen. :) Our neighborhood seems to be the "go to" spot for the Eastside. Most of our Beggars I have never seen.
