Happy Birthday to Drew!
It has been a whirlwind few days...who am I kidding it has been a whirlwind past month. Late last week I asked Drew what he wanted to do to celebrate his birthday, have friends to dinner, go out to dinner....eat at home.... I knew Scott would be out of town on the day and evening of his actual birthday so I was trying to have something over the weekend. Of course with baseball schedules that didn't leave a whole lot of options. He opted to have his best friend Tyler over after their baseball game on Saturday night...they got home around 8:00. I had picked up some Buffalo Wild Wings for them, whipped up some mashed potatoes and quick bought a cake at Hyvee. We had a little celebration before they headed down to the basement to sleep. They were both sound asleep by 11 pm and up at 6:30 am on Sunday for another game. Not much of a "party" but that's exactly what Drew wanted.
This morning we had our family birthday celebration over breakfast. I had bought Cinnabon Rolls at the mall yesterday for him....that was not necessary. He would have preferred my homemade "Little Rolls" like Poppy makes. So we had both. Scott had to leave for St Louis for the week later this morning.
Jack, Drew and I stopped at school and surprised him with a cookie cake at lunch. He was excited about that, as were about 50 of his closest friends :) Miss Emily, who has been the school counselor this year at DMC, even snuck out of her office for the birthday celebration. Tommy was also in the lunchroom at that time.
This afternoon my Mom came, just in time to go and watch Tommy play in his first JV baseball game of the season at DMC. He played first and pitched an inning. It was a beautiful day to be outside for baseball.
After baseball we came home for Drew's birthday dinner of choice, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, pot roast and crescent rolls. Along with a homemade Boston Cream Pie Jack made this morning with very little help from me. :) Love that these boys love to bake and cook. It wasn't long until they made a mad dash to Jack's baseball game where they still are...I am home with Max who didn't nap all day but crashed around 7:00 tonight. Mom will come home soon and swap out so I can go to the game. Tommy is still not home from school or baseball...long days. It's a good thing he likes baseball.
There have been LOTS of sweets for this birthday...not pictured are the Scratch Cupcakes Scott brought home from him this morning before he left...as if we didn't have enough sugary birthday sweets. Drew didn't complain at all.
We are so blessed to have been chosen as Drew's parents. He is kind hearted, generous, patient, loving with a HUGE heart for serving others. He is protective and loyal. He LOVES his sports teams with great passion and doesn't have any "wiggle" room in his opinions of those. He is quick to forgive and quick to apologize. He is funny and entertaining! We love you Drew!
