Thankfulness: Day 9

Today I am thankful for my teenage boys, Tommy and Drew.  I think it's fun to have them so close in age. When we had Tommy we were hoping our next baby would come close and soon, God planned them to be 23 months apart.  They don't know life without each other.  They are best friends and sometimes worst enemies.  Part of brotherhood.  14 and 16 are hard ages in some ways, super fun ages in other ways.

I dread when people say "Teenagers are the worst", "Just wait until they are teenagers" and "Too bad teenagers these days are up to no good".  I disagree with those general comments.  Don't get me wrong while there are hard parts of teenagers, VERY hard…I try to remind myself that they are trying to test out independence and individuality.   Our boys have a hard time accepting NO for an answer some days with request after request…not necessarily for stuff, more for permission for apps, social media, movies to watch etc.…there are so many MORE blessings with teenagers.  AND I would like to add that our boys have GREAT friends, and we have been so impressed with the quality of teenagers that are growing up.  They have made wonderful choices in WHO they chose to spend time with and WHAT they chose to do with those friends.

For people who have no hope in this upcoming generation I completely disagree, there are great kids out there with big hearts and smart minds.  I just spend a week in Costa Rica with another wonderful teenage girl..and I watched her sweetness.  A HEART as big as you can imagine.  Last night Tommy had his best friend Will over and they were playing and what another great reminder of WHAT a great kid he is, another wonderful teenager.   Drew was at a friends' house last night, such a nice group of kids yet again.  Just playing board games, eating KFC and hanging out.   I have taken lots of photos this fall of Seniors and have been SO impressed with their drive, their hearts and their goals.  Teenagers are NOT bad.

Our boys still enjoy hanging out at home with us, most of the time.  They still let me kiss them goodnight, they let us pray with them, they want to make us proud.

So today I reflect upon how thankful I am for these 2 specific teenagers that have been given to us to raise. I am so proud of both of them.  I love them so much and pray their relationship with each other will be around forever and ever.  As we often remind them, YEARS from now, when we are gone, their friends won't remember all of their birthday parties, goofy family trips, things Mom said…BUT they will have each other.  Forever, For always NO MATTER WHAT.

Thankfulness: Day 8

I am thankful today for Jack.  Jack is SUCH a help to me.  Sometimes I worry that we treat him older than he is, we rely on him so much.  Jack is by far Max's "GO TO" guy, there could not be a bigger love for Max than "his Jackie".  I love that the other morning the first words out of Max's mouth were to Jack "I like you Jackie.  And you like me. And we both have the same hair but yours is darker than mine and our skin is a little bit different color too.  I am so glad you're my brother.  God made us special. I love you Jackie."

Jack is one sweet kid.  I have been purposefully trying to pay more attention to allowing HIM to be a kid this fall.  He is blowing me away with his maturity.  He is loving so many new things and I love watching him blossom.  He is doing band, TAG at school, camo anything,  he did tackle football, he is doing competitive basketball now…he is into hunting and guns too.  (hmmm not sure where this is coming from)  Just really growing into his own person.

I love sitting up and chatting with him.  I truly enjoy him.  He is home with me right now, he has had headaches the past week and we are going in soon for an eye check up.  I got a call from school around 10:30 today that he was in the nurses office again with another bad one.  Monday we will go to see the Dr. again, went to the chiropractor today.  Want to get to the bottom of these.  But I love having him home.

Thankfulness: Day 7

I am thankful for my girlfriends.  I am thankful they care about the little stuff in my days and the big stuff.  I am grateful they are always a phone call or text or email a way.  I am grateful for the assurance that IF I needed them at 2:00 am they would be there.  I am grateful they check on me when I am having a bad day.  I am thankful they care about me.  I am thankful that I have girlfriends from all stages of my life.  I count on my girlfriends.

God has blessed me with the best girlfriends around.

Thankfulness: Day 6

I am thankful for fall.  I am thankful for a change in seasons.  I love living in Iowa.  I love living in a place where we can enjoy God's beautiful artwork.  The leaves are SO beautiful right now, reds are my favorites but I love the yellows and oranges as well.

Fall is my favorite season.  I love college football, cool days, windows open, jeans and sweatshirts.

Thankfulness: Day 5

Today I am thankful for prayer.  I am thankful to be able to pray freely.  I am thankful that God wants to hear my prayers, little and big. AND I am MOST thankful that HE always ALWAYS always answers prayers.

Thankfulness: Day 4

Today I am thankful for a legacy of strong, healthy marriages in our family.

I am grateful for grandparents that were married over 50 years...

I am grateful for my parents marriage of 50 years.

I am grateful for Scott's parents' marriage of 59 years.

I am grateful for our marriage of almost 19 years.

I am reminded today not to take a healthy, strong, God blessed marriage for granted.

Thankfulness: Day 3

Today I am thankful for my Mom.  I call her a bazillion times a week, sometimes for a reason, and sometimes not.  I am so blessed to have her as such a big part of my life.  She is one person who cares what we are having for dinner, what funny thing Max just said, what the boys are up to, what the inside of my new fridge looks like, how I am doing…she is the definition of MOM.  Always has been and always will be.  I do NOT take it for granted that I have her in my daily life.

Love you Mom

Thankfulness: Day 2

Today I am thankful for my Love.  We don't have a perfect marriage, there is no soap opera going on, the romance isn't always something you would see in the movies (okay hardly ever is it)…but our love is real.  I count on it, I don't ever doubt it.  Scott is the real deal.  What you see if what you get…level headed, God-fearing, black and white, strong, manly…real.  He loves me all the time…and I him.  There are times when we may not "like" each other so much or when we say things that we shouldn't….but that's the part I maybe love the best about marriage.  It's marriage, it's a journey…it's a journey we have chosen and we will never give up on.  I would marry him again and again and again….

Forever, for always…NO MATTER WHAT.

Thankfulness: Day 1

It's November...I am choosing thankfulness this month.  My goal is to post one thing a day that I am thankful for...focusing on all that God has given to me.

Today I am thankful for this littlest guy in our house, he is the icing on the cake, the peanut butter to my jelly...he is our bonus baby whom we adore.  Cannot imagine this family without him.
